Received on board the USS Stockton (DD-646) on January 31, 1943. It is unclear why Seaman Archer was home on furlough right after getting on his first ship.

BRIDGEPORT SAILOR ENDS LIFE

Bridgeport, March 30 – (AP) – Seaman Walter Archer, 21, son of Mrs. Clara E. Archer of 103 Clinton Avenue, died in Bridgeport Hospital late last night after police said he drank a quantity of poison. He had been spending a furlough at his home.
