JONES, William Russell. Age 62. Of 26 Dorset House, Clusters of Lexton, Maple Shade. Formerly of Norwalk, Connecticut, died Monday, June 9, 1980, at the Burlington County Memorial Hospital after a long illness. Mr.Jones was a former Norwalk City Councilman and served two terms as Police Commissioner. He was Chairman of the Police Building Committee, which constructed the new police building. A Veteran of World War II, he served as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army and was wounded at Anzio, Italy. Mr. Jones was one of the original founders of the Norwalk Pony Baseball League and served as its Treasurer for sixteen years. He was associated with Musante, Berman, and Steinberg Co. in Norwalk, Connecticut, for twenty-five years and with the State of Connecticut Department of Transportation for the past seven years, retiring to New Jersey this past October. Mr. Jones was a member of the American Legion Frank C. Godfrey Post #12, the Society of the Third Infantry Division, and the Retired Officers Association. Survivors are his wife, Alma; two daughters, Mrs Cheryl L. Smith of Maple Shade and Mrs. Candace E. Gisolfi of Cherry Hill; two grandsons, Justin and Adam Smith; a sister, Mrs. Dorothy Chariott of Redding, Connecticut; a brother, Arthur Jones of Newcomerstown, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Raymond Funeral Home, 3 E. Wall St., Norwalk, Conn. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 7 to 9. The interment will take place on Thursday at 1:30p.m. Pastor Herbert Mitchell of the Emanuel Baptist Church, Maple Shade, will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Norwalk, Conn. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
