Born to Hirsch H. (1883-1951) and Sarah F. Letzter Weitz (1883-1964). Brothers, Irving J. (1903-1982) and Joseph (1912-1964). Sisters, Mollie M. Weitz Tall (1907-1960), Gertrude “Gussie” Weitz Bock (1907-1999), Bertha Weitz Schwartz (1910-1993) and Mae Weitz Vogel (1924-1999). All were born in Poland except Sidney and Mae.

Sgt Weitz was killed in action in Germany. After temporarily being buried overseas at Margraten American Cemetery in the Netherlands, his remains were repatriated and buried in the Baron Hirsch Cemetery, Staten Island. In May 1966, he was moved to Connecticut. His final resting place is Beth El Cemetery where he was reinterred on June 15, 1966.
