Born to John D. (1814-1880) and Jane N. Hodges Byxbee (1822-1899). Siblings were Emily (1844-1915), George (1845-1903), Charles A. (1849-1925), Sarah (1849-1917) and Clara E. (1858-1920).

Died of an unknown cause on September 1, 1862 in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
