PVT JOHN BARRY HURT IN ACTION
Was Wounded In North Africa Fighting; War Department Notifies His Sister

Private John Francis Barry of 10 Sunset Hill Avenue was “seriously injured in action on the North African area on May,” it was learned here today by his sister, Mrs. Richard Halloran, of the same address. A telegram containing the message was sent to the family by the War Department. Mrs. Halloran, however, reports that she has received a letter from her brother since his injury and he stated that he had a slight hip injury. Private “Frank,” as he is better known in Norwalk, attended local schools and was employed at the Norwalk Post Office prior to his induction in the armed forces on June 3, 1942. Before arriving in Africa, Private Barry was stationed in Ireland, Scotland and England.

Buried at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Broad Street, Norwalk, CT. Unknown plot number.
