PFC H.J. NOWACK WOUNDED IN ACTION
PFC Herbert J. Nowack, the husband of Mrs. Marie Nowack of 93 East Avenue, was wounded in action in Europe early last month. Mrs. Nowack was advised of her husband’s injury in a card from the War Department, which stated that he was making a normal recovery. The son of Mr. and Mrs. August Nowack of 21 Rowan Street, PFC Nowack, has been in the Army for five years. Before entering the service, he was employed at the Hat Corporation of America.

PFC HERBERT NOWACK GETS BRONZE STAR
The Bronze Star Medal recently awarded Private First Class Herbert J. Nowack, now in Germany, was received yesterday by his wife, Mrs. Marie Erickson Nowack of 93 East Avenue, who is awaiting information regarding the circumstances prompting the award. PFC Nowack, the son of Mr. and Mrs. August Nowack of 21 Rowan Street, is also possessor of the Purple Heart Medal for wounds in action suffered in February. Before he went into the Army five years ago, he was with the Hat Corporation of America.

Herbert J. Nowack, 62, of 2 Fourth St., died suddenly Sunday afternoon, apparently of a heart attack suffered while fishing in Norwalk Harbor off Fifth Street. Born in Westport, the son of the late August and Cynthia Schwartz Nowack, he had been a local resident for many years and was the husband of Marie Erickson Nowack. Mr. Nowack was a retired factory worker, having been employed prior to retirement at Shank Metal. He was previously employed for many years by Pepperidge Farm and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He had also formerly been active in area Boy and Sea Scouting organizations. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Paul A. Nowack of Bethel; one daughter, Mrs. Bruce (Carol) Cline of Jacksonville, Fla.; one brother, Henry Nowack of Norwalk; three sisters, Mrs. Marie Lenz, Mrs. Ann Nathan, and Mrs. Rose Sablowsky, all of Norwalk, and one granddaughter. Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Raymond Funeral Home, 5 East Wall St., and in the Church of St. Thomas the Apostle, where a mass of Christian burial will be conducted at 10 o’clock. Interment will take place in St. John Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The family requests that flowers
be omitted, and contributions be made to the American Heart Association, 15 Bettswood Road.
Buried in St. John’s Cemetery, 223 Richards Avenue, Norwalk, Connecticut; Section and Plot number are unknown.
