MICHAEL J. MAROTTO; Decorated Combat Veteran of WWII
Michael J. Marotto, 83, a lifelong resident of Norwalk, died Tuesday, October 12, 2004, at the Norwalk Hospital. Born on April 24, 1921, the son of Mary and Costanzo Marotto, he
was a retired steamfitter and plumber, a trade in which he worked for 47 years through the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 777. A combat veteran of the Second World War, he enlisted in the Army in Hawaii, where he served for three years with the 102nd Engineer Battalion after working as a steamfitter on the ships in Pearl Harbor in 1942. His combat service in the Pacific Theater included Makin Island, Saipan, and Okinawa, and he was with the occupation forces in Japan in 1945. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon, and Victory Medal, all with the 27th Infantry Division. He was a life member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the American Legion. He is survived by his wife, Connie; his son Michael J. Marotto, and his wife, Carole of Norwalk; his daughter Elaine Sansone, and her husband, David of Stamford; his daughter Kathy DiScala, and her husband, David of Norwalk, and eight grandchildren: David, Marie, Rachel, Amy, Stephen, Matthew, Laura, and Jamie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Joseph’s Church, South Main Street, Norwalk. Interment will be in Saint John’s Cemetery, Norwalk. The family will receive friends at the Magner Funeral Home, Mott Avenue, Norwalk, on Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Contributions may be made to Saint Joseph’s Church, 85 South Main Street Norwalk.
