DECORATIONS: SSG Kuban is a three-time recipient of the Purple Heart Medal, Air Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon with 3 service stars, WWII Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, and the Good Conduct Medal.

SGT WM. J. KUBAN, PLANE GUNNER, HURT

Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Kuban of West Norwalk Road have received word that their son, Sergeant William J. Kuban, 21, an aerial gunner aboard a B-24 Liberator bomber, was slightly wounded in action recently on a bombing mission in the European Theatre. Sergeant Kuban’s mother received the following telegram from Major General Ulio, Adjutant General of the Army, last Friday afternoon:

“Regret to inform you your son, Sgt William J. Kuban, was slightly wounded in action in the European area. You will be advised as reports of condition are received.”

Sergeant Kuban, an only son, was inducted into the Army on October 3, 1942, and was shipped overseas in October of that year.


From The Norwalk Hour August 29, 1975

William J. Kuban, 53, of 14 Fairfield Avenue, died suddenly Wednesday in Gainesville, Florida. Mr. Kuban was born in Norwalk, the son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Papp Kuban, and was a retired roofer. He had been employed at Barret-Nonpareil Roofing Company. A U.S. Army Air Force Veteran of World War II, he was awarded the Purple Heart with two oak leaf clusters. Survivors include a son, William D. Kuban of Danbury; a daughter, Mrs. Daniel (Deborah) Dumont of Norwalk; and eight grandchildren. The military funeral will be held Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. in the Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue, and at 9 o’clock in St. Mary’s Church for a mass of Christian Burial. Interment will take place in the veterans section of St. John Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.
