One brother, Frank T. (1924-1982).

1st Lieutenant Amerigo O. Morrone, 28, son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Morrone, 113 South Ninth Street, is a patient in a hospital in Hawaii. A War Department telegram reported him seriously wounded on April 1 in Okinawa. A letter from the lieutenant told that he suffered from shrapnel wounds all over his body and that his left arm and leg were in casts. He has been overseas since July 1944 and was promoted to the rank of First Lieutenant in February this year. He had earlier participated in the liberation of Leyte. He entered the Army on March 21, 1941, and rose to the rank of Corporal prior to being commissioned a Second Lieutenant in December 1942 at Fort Benning, Georgia. He was serving with the 96th Infantry Division in the Philippines. Prior to entering the service he had graduated from Altoona High School in the Class of 1935 and was employed in Connecticut. A brother, Private Frank Morrone, has been a patient in an Army hospital in England for the past eight months, suffering from wounds received in action in Europe. A brother-in-law, Sergeant Michael Anastasia, is serving in Belgium.

NORWALK — Amerigo “Rick” Morrone, 78, of Norwalk, died Friday in Greenwich Hospital. He was the husband of Margaret Cutrone Morrone. Mr. Morrone was born in Altoona, PA, the son of the late Andrew and Angelina Santella Morrone, and had lived in Norwalk for over 50 years. He was a retired partner of Patsy Cutrone and Sons Inc. of Norwalk and a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, where he was a Second Lieutenant. He received the Purple Heart and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, the Retired Officers Club, and the Italian American War Veterans. Mr. Morrone was an officer and longtime member of the St. Ann Club. He was treasurer of Ben Whone National Little League in Broad River, where he had been very active. In addition to his wife, Mr. Morrone is survived by a son, Andrew Morrone of Westport; three sisters, Mary Guiliano and Edelia Matteo, both of Norwalk and Jean Anastasia of Newtown Square, PA; and two grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Frank Morrone, and a sister, Fannie Campanaro. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Monday, in St. Mary’s Church, 669 West Ave. Interment will take place in St. John’s Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday in Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Ave. St. Ann Club and Auxiliary will meet at 7:30 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. The family requests contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 1175 Post Road East, Westport, 06880, or St. Mary’s Church, West Avenue, Norwalk, 06851.
