Mrs. Frank Fumo of 9 Bouton Street has received the Purple Heart, which was awarded to her husband, PFC Frank Fumo, who was wounded in action on D-Day. PFC Fumo entered the Army over two years ago and received his basic training at Fort McClellan, Alabama. From there, he was sent to Newfoundland for 10 1/2 months. He was shipped overseas about Easter of this year. Mrs. Fumo has received word from her husband stating that he is now getting along nicely. Anyone wishing to write to him may get his address from his wife or his mother, Mrs. Madeline Fumo of 2 Spruce Street.

WWII VETERAN, ATHLETE, UMPIRE
NORWALK — Frank “Smoke” P. Fumo, 81, a longtime resident of Norwalk, died Tuesday evening in his home. He was the husband of Elizabeth Szalay Fumo. Born in Norwalk, the son of the late Filipo and Madeline Demato Fumo was a retired employee of the maintenance department of the Norwalk Public Schools. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, Mr. Fumo participated in the Normandy invasion and received the Purple Heart. He also served in the European, African, and Middle Eastern campaigns. Mr. Fumo was a life member of Disabled American Veterans and the Maintenance Union of AFL/CIO. He was also a member of the Norwalk/Rowayton Chapter of the American Association of Retired Persons and the Norwalk Umpires Association, a charter member of the Colonial Athletic Club Baseball Team, and a volunteer fireman for the Mayflower Hook & Ladder Co. In addition to his wife, Mr. Fumo is survived by three daughters, Sheila Gombos, Shari Hanson, both of Norwalk, and Judith Glatzel of Brookfield; two sisters, Rose M. Fumo of Redding and Adele Guadiano of New Fairfield; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Ladislaus Church, 25 Cliff Street. Interment will full military honors will follow in St. John Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 pm Thursday in the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave. The family requests that contributions be made to Mid-Fairfield
