Born to Robert H. (1899-1981) and Leona Rose Lavoie Lee (1899-1970). Five brothers, Henry R. (1918-1989), Harold (1922-1929), Edward (1928-1929), Theodore (1933-1995), and Albert (1935-1985). Two sisters, Alice Lee DePietro (1921-1963) and Theresa L. Lee Austin DeAngelis (1928-1967).
Norwalk resident PFC John Magrath, Medal of Honor recipient, was in the same unit but in Company G, and PFC Harold Hyatt was also in the 10th Mountain Division, 86th Infantry, but in Company F. Also, former Vice President Bob Dole.

PFC George W. Lee, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lee of this town, formerly of Norwalk, Connecticut, died in Italy on June 10 as the result of hepatitis and jaundice caused by wounds in both legs, the family was informed Thursday. Private Lee had been hospitalized since January 1. He enlisted on January 4, 1941, and had been overseas for eight months. Besides his parents, he leaves a wife Bobbie, who he married in Colorado after entering the service, and a one-year-old son. His wife and child are now in Lake Placid, New York. He also leaves four brothers, Henry R. Lee of Brattleboro and Daniel, Theodore, and Albert of West Chesterfield; two sisters, Mrs. Richard Austin of Brattleboro and Mrs. Alice DePietro of Norwalk, Connecticut, and a grandmother in Norwalk, Mrs. J.V. Lavoie. A memorial mass will be said for him Monday at 8 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Hinsdale by Reverend George Ledoux.

Word has been received from the War Dept. by Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lee of Brattleboro, Vermont, formerly of this city, that their son, PFC George W. Lee, died on June 10 from wounds received on the Italian battlefront. PFC Lee was attached to the 86th Mountain Infantry. He was inducted into the Army from Norwalk on Jan. 4, 1943. He received his training at Camp Hale, Colorado, Front Royal, Virginia, and Camp Swift, Texas. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. George Lee, and son George Jr. of Lake Placid, N.Y. and four brothers, Henry, Daniel, Theodore, and Albert Lee of Brattleboro, VT, and two sisters, Mrs. Richard Austin of Brattleboro, VT, and Mrs. Arnold DePietro of 49 Plattsville Avenue, Norwalk.
