Norwalk police officer Marco Carias, 26, was pronounced dead at about 6:30 p.m. Saturday in Danbury Hospital as a result of injuries he sustained when the car he was driving veered off the left side of Route 7 in Danbury and struck a utility pole at 12:30 a.m., police said. Police said Carias was conducting an undercover investigation in the Danbury area for the Connecticut State Police Narcotics Task Force at the time of the accident. The cause of the accident was under investigation. Carias, who joined the Norwalk Police in September 1980, is survived by his wife and a 1-year-old daughter of 11 Bedford Avenue, Norwalk.


Officer Carias is buried in Calverton National Cemetery, Middle Country Road, Calverton, New York; Section 2, Plot 308.
