Born to Henry E. (1805-1875) and Sarah A. Moore Bodwell (1807-1891). Siblings were Ruth A. (1826-1844), Esther S. Bodwell Benham (1828-1859), Mary A. (1830-1889), Henry E. (1835-1903), Hannah M. (1841-?), Georginna M. (1843-1885), and John H. (1846-1932).


Shot in the lung on July 2, 1863 at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania and died of those wounds July 5, 1863.


Though William has a memorial stone in Avenue C, Union Cemetery in Norwalk, CT, according to the internet and his relatives, he is actually buried at “Schwartz’s Red Rock” in Gettysburg, PA.
